If you don't know, now you know.
BGS is labeling wavy and glossy cards. BL, this is not great news. I know some of you more excited collectors are looking forward to the day that we will get our population counts straight, but trust me that day is never coming. I thought this way when I first started down this road, but I think differently now. One of my test beds was Paladin. Once the cert and spec for Dark Paladin (MFC) went through, I was sure that people would have an interest in getting their cards certified properly, but I was wrong. Very wrong in fact. Actually, people continue to get their Paladins graded incorrectly, and this may not be PSA's fault either. Those submitting their cards are either listing them incorrectly, which happens OFTEN, or are not holding PSA accountable (they will fix the card). So for those who think there is an accurate count coming, think again.
This is only going to further confuse the market. Here's why I think that. My most recent encounter with BGS for something niche like this was with an Ultra Rare THD. I had to berate BGS to fix the error and TBH they really didn't give a shit what went on their label. They only cared that I went away happy. Not a great business model for an authentication service. So why mention this? Well, imagine a guy sufficiently convinced he has a "Wavy" card, maybe not even LOB SDY SDK... Maybe MRD or TP1... So that is a problem. Also, that some cards are now irreconcilably labeled wavy or glossy incorrectly. Now the market is even more convoluted because you have Unlabeled Glossy, Unlabeled Wavy, Unlabeled AE Misattributed, Properly Labeled Wavy, Properly Labeled Glossy, Incorrectly Labeled Wavy, Incorrectly Labeled Glossy AND Incorrectly Labeled AE Misattributed.
I think I will pass on that headache.
And do you really think that the guy with the mislabeled wavy BEWD is going to get it fixed?
